The purpose of the Mi’kmaq Land Use Project is to make certain individual personal knowledge and information on the use of PEI natural and cultural resources by the Mi’kmaq of PEI is gathered, preserved, and is accessible to, the Mi’kmaq of PEI and others, building pride in Mi’kmaq culture and heritage, and knowledge and understanding of the Mi’kmaq in PEI. The MLUP is also intended to support ongoing resource management and development activities of the PEI Mi’kmaq Bands. It is also very important in the protection of Aboriginal rights when the First Nations are consultations with Federal and Provincial Governments.
