Social Worker – Child and Family Services

Location: Abegweit First Nation
This position provides front-line therapeutic social work services to children, youth, families in in collaboration with internal staff and/or child protection staff. This position also works individually and in groups, to provide culturally appropriate practices and interventions, where Child Protection Services is not involved and it has been determined that children, youth and/or families could benefit from therapeutic services. As a result, the social worker would be required to possess knowledge and skills in doing Immediate Response Conferencing, Family Group Conferencing, and facilitation of therapeutic groups for youth or parents.
The social worker also works in partnership with provincial placement social workers on the development of First Nations placement options so children and youth can remain within their community or with First Nations families living off-reserve. This work may include program development, recruitment, training, and joint work with the provincial social workers on the licensing of placement options and on-going support.
The Social Worker has a generic caseload of preventive and supportive social work counselling/services as well as required support for First Nations placement development.
