MCPEI Receives Canada’s Premiers 2024 Council of the Federation Literacy Award

The Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI is proud to announce their Employment Services program has been awarded the Canada’s Premiers 2024 Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

The Award is in recognition of the Workplace Essential Skills Program in Lennox Island. It is presented in each province and territory, and celebrates exceptional achievement, innovative practice and excellence in literacy.

Executive Director, Kateri Coade was honoured to accept the award alongside Chief Darlene Bernard who’s been involved in the program since its inception. Over the past 10 years, the Workplace Essential Skills program in Lennox Island has provided a culturally safe and welcoming space for community members to learn and grow confidence in literacy, communication skills and much more.

The Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI would like to thank Workplace Learning PEI Inc for the nomination and for playing such a key role in delivering this program. A special thank you to Premier Dennis King and the provincial government (Skills PEI) for supporting this program and giving Islanders access to essential literacy skills.
