The Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI is proud to share that its Executive Director, Kateri Coade, will sit on Hockey Canada’s First Indigenous Advisory Circle (IAC).
“It is truly an honour to be appointed to Hockey Canada’s first Indigenous Advisory Circle, and to have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in Canada’s hockey community,” said Kateri Coade, Executive Director of the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI. “As a mom of two Mi’kmaw daughters who love the sport, I see hockey as a powerful tool for advancing reconciliation and community development.”
The IAC is comprised of 11 inspiring Indigenous leaders from across Canada who will help inform organizational policies, program, and practices that relate to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. This includes actions 87 to 91 and other initiatives that will advance Hockey Canada’s work with Indigenous Peoples.
Dr. Wilton Littlechild, a Companion of the Order of Canada and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame inductee, is the circle’s inaugural chair. A residential school survivor, Dr. Littlechild’s lifelong commitment to Indigenous rights, sport and reconciliation has been instrumental to healing and empowerment, particularly for Indigenous youth, nationally and internationally.
Kateri is joined by 10 other representatives:
